Techbox is an award-winning series of educational workshops and hackathons developed to explore accessibility, activism, and storytelling through creative technology. The programme encourages participants to bring their own voices and lived experiences into conversations about issues that directly or indirectly affect them. At the core of Techbox is Augmented Reality (AR)—used as a tool for creative expression, critical storytelling, and social engagement.

Techbox was awarded the Creative Enterprise Award for Best Community Project from UAL.

With professional experience in augmented reality since 2020, we created Techbox to share our knowledge with the next generation of creatives. The workshops introduce AR as a tool for critical storytelling and social engagement, offering a beginner-friendly and non-competitive environment where participants can experiment with creative technology.

The programme ranges from 1-hour introductory sessions to intensive 3-day hackathons, delivered both in person and online. Participants learn two AR platforms and are guided through the entire creative process—from ideation and design to prototyping and presentation. At the end of each workshop, participants showcase their projects and receive certification recognising their new skills. Techbox draws inspiration from a diverse and politically engaged network of designers and technologists, highlighting how creative technology can be used as a tool for activism, accessibility, and social change.
